# KKR & Co. Moat

Status: stale. Policy: company-analysis-1.

KKR has a narrow advantage from long-duration committed fund capital and contractual fees that continue after investment periods. This supports customer stickiness within existing vehicles, but does not establish repeat fundraising or exceptional investment performance. Pricing power is mixed: fees are negotiated and contractually governed, and generally decline after investment periods. Reputation and distribution are plausible additional advantages, but their competitive superiority is not demonstrated.

Drawdown investor commitments, long fund terms and continuing management fees create contractual stickiness within existing vehicles, reducing the frequency with which that capital is contested.

Durability: Private equity fund terms typically span 10–12 years, with similarly long terms disclosed for infrastructure, real estate and credit. This supports a narrow advantage during existing fund lives; it does not guarantee successor commitments or establish unrestricted fee collection throughout those lives.

Risks: Management fees generally decline after investment periods. Some other vehicles permit periodic redemptions or advisory termination with minimal notice. Investors can maintain competing relationships and allocate new capital elsewhere. These disclosures establish limitations and possible erosion, rather than realized fundraising failure.

Invalidation: The thesis would weaken if investors could routinely withdraw committed drawdown capital or terminate management without meaningful friction, or if sustained successor-fund shortfalls and fee concessions outweighed the continuing fee base.
