# Targa Resources Moat

Status: stale. Policy: company-analysis-1.

Targa demonstrates useful infrastructure integration, growing demand and successful project delivery, but the passages do not establish durable competitive protection through scarce capacity, superior costs or customer switching barriers. Pricing evidence is mixed: LPG export fees improved, while commodity prices reduced realized sales. Fee arrangements and some cost pass-through support resilience. Insufficient evidence of a moat does not establish a weak competitive position.

## efficient_scale

The operating pipeline system connects gathering and processing assets with downstream facilities, and internal supply demonstrably supports transportation and fractionation volumes. This establishes integration benefits, but not efficient scale: local capacity scarcity or uneconomic duplication by competitors is unproven.

Durability: Existing connections and completed facilities provide current utility. Their ability to protect returns over a sustained period is not established; planned expansions remain potential benefits.

Risks: Competition depends on location, capacity, pricing and connectivity. Rival construction, customer self-supply, producer curtailments and export outages could weaken utilization. Disclosed competitive risks are possibilities; curtailments and the export outage actually occurred.

Invalidation: The integration-based advantage hypothesis would be weakened by sustained diversion of connected producer volumes to competing systems, renewal concessions, or persistent underutilization after new capacity starts. Evidence of scarce alternatives, durable customer commitments and superior project returns would be needed to establish a moat.
