# Fifth Third Bancorp Moat

Status: published. Policy: company-analysis-1.

Fifth Third demonstrates repeat commercial payments demand, cross-selling and a substantial core deposit franchise, but the passages do not establish durable switching costs, superior funding costs or another structural advantage. Observed pricing is mixed: deposit costs fell, while savings customers migrated toward higher rates; payments revenue growth includes volume and cross-selling rather than demonstrated fee increases. Comerica added scale, but sustained competitive benefits remain unproven. This is insufficient evidence of a moat, rather than an established weak competitive position.
