# GE Vernova Moat

Status: published. Policy: company-analysis-1.

GE Vernova has a narrow advantage in installed-base services, supported by 5–25-year maintenance agreements, substantive cancellation penalties in backlog, and demonstrated Power parts demand and favorable pricing. Power provides the strongest operating corroboration; Wind service contracts do not establish equivalent economic resilience. Favorable pricing in Power and Electrification supports current pricing power, but does not establish durable superiority across equipment markets. Wind contract losses and execution pressures limit resilience.

## switching_costs

Long-term maintenance relationships and contractual cancellation friction support continuing service demand, most convincingly in Power. Growing Power services backlog, higher parts volume, and favorable realized pricing corroborate customer dependence. This supports a bounded service advantage rather than company-wide equipment dominance.

Durability: Maintenance agreements generally run 5–25 years, providing contractual persistence. Continued customer spending on existing plants supports the advantage today; renewal economics and competitive service substitution beyond existing contracts remain unestablished.

Risks: Service revenues depend partly on asset utilization, while long-term maintenance costs require estimates. Offshore Wind's continuing cost pressure and higher contract losses demonstrate that contractual duration alone does not ensure attractive economics. Technological substitution and government termination rights create additional erosion risks.

Invalidation: The thesis would be undermined by sustained declines in Power parts demand and services backlog alongside lost service contracts, materially easier customer cancellation or substitution, or service cost overruns that repeatedly absorb favorable pricing. Evidence of customers replacing GE Vernova maintenance economically without substantive friction would directly challenge the switching-cost mechanism.
