# Leidos Holdings Moat

Status: published. Policy: company-analysis-1.

Leidos has a narrow moat based on specialized mission knowledge and incumbency in complex government systems. Disclosed decade-plus FAA extensions, renewed cyber task orders and a follow-on aircraft-support award demonstrate repeat demand beyond generic management claims. These support switching friction, although replacement costs are not quantified. Competitive bidding, government rights to work products and contract termination constrain durability and pricing discretion. Neither broad pricing power nor a relative cost advantage is established.

## switching_costs

Embedded systems integration and operational knowledge create switching friction in selected mission-critical programs. FAA contract extensions, cyber task-order renewals and follow-on F-16 diagnostic support demonstrate actual incumbency benefits; they do not establish customer lock-in across the portfolio.

Durability: FAA extensions exceeding ten years provide unusually long contractual evidence, reinforced by renewals and follow-on work disclosed in 2026. Continued benefits depend on execution, appropriations and subsequent procurement decisions.

Risks: Customers can terminate contracts and take control of work-in-process. Multiple-award task orders remain competitive. The temporary health-readiness modification explicitly anticipates a customer transition, illustrating limits to incumbency.

Invalidation: Repeated losses of incumbent FAA, cyber or diagnostic-support work to replacement suppliers, demonstrated transitions with little disruption, or renewals requiring material price concessions would undermine this assessment.

Competitors: Accenture Federal Systems, Booz Allen Hamilton Inc., CACI International Inc., General Dynamics Corporation, SAIC
## intangible_assets

An established cleared workforce and mission-specific technical knowledge support eligibility and delivery in specialized government programs. Actual repeat awards corroborate commercially useful expertise, while management's broader claims of differentiation remain assertions.

Durability: Experience and cleared personnel support a current advantage, but personnel can leave and technologies change. Contract extensions demonstrate persistence in particular programs rather than exceptional company-wide durability.

Risks: Established competitors possess relevant capabilities. Government rights to disclose or license funded technology weaken exclusivity, and technological change and procurement reform are expanding competition. Workforce scale alone establishes neither efficient scale nor lower costs.

Invalidation: Loss of critical cleared personnel or eligibility, repeated technical-performance failures, or competitors routinely replacing Leidos on specialized incumbent programs without meaningful transition difficulty would invalidate the claimed advantage.

Competitors: BAE Systems, L3Harris, Lockheed Martin Corporation, Northrop Grumman Corporation, Raytheon Technologies Corporation
