# Oracle Moat

Status: published. Policy: company-analysis-1.

Oracle has a bounded switching-cost advantage in its installed software and support relationships, supported by customer dependence on technical support, widespread support attachment and stable multiyear support revenue. Migration costs and renewal rates are undisclosed. Cloud growth, contractual backlog and customer prepayments demonstrate demand and execution, but do not establish a durable cloud cost advantage. Realized pricing power remains unproven. Infrastructure spending, equity dilution and competitive alternatives constrain confidence in durability.

## switching_costs

Customers' dependence on Oracle-specific technical support, widespread support purchases alongside licenses and persistent support revenue support an installed-base advantage. Switching friction is inferred from these relationships rather than quantified migration costs.

Durability: Software support revenue remained near $19.5–$19.8 billion across fiscal 2024–2026 despite fluctuating license revenue. This demonstrates persistence over the observed period, but does not establish exceptional or guaranteed durability.

Risks: Lower-priced support alternatives, competitive functionality and pricing, inadequate support and customer transitions to cloud could weaken the relationship. These are disclosed risks rather than demonstrated widespread customer losses. Rapid cloud expansion also introduces capital and customer-concentration exposure.

Invalidation: The thesis would weaken materially if sustained support-revenue declines were accompanied by disclosed customer departures or reduced renewals rather than migration into Oracle cloud services; if support attachment fell materially; or if customers demonstrated that they could replace Oracle deployments and support without meaningful operational friction.
