# Veeva Systems Moat

Status: published. Policy: company-analysis-1.

Veeva has a narrow moat from switching friction in configured, regulated life sciences workflows. Disclosed customer use, implementation requirements and live Vault CRM deployments support a current advantage, although replacement costs and renewal rates are not quantified. Contractual inflation adjustments provide limited pricing protection, but realized net pricing is unestablished. Customer exit rights, actual usage reductions and the unfinished CRM migration constrain durability; the evidence does not support a wide moat.

## switching_costs

Customers use Veeva for regulated electronic records and validated workflows requiring configuration, implementation and integration. Replacing these deployments plausibly entails operational disruption and resource commitments, supporting incumbent switching friction. This is an inference from disclosed use and implementation requirements, not a quantified replacement-cost claim.

Durability: Regulatory recordkeeping and embedded workflows support persistence across renewal cycles. More than 125 live Vault CRM customers demonstrate deployment progress, but do not establish migration completion or durable competitive dominance.

Risks: Customers have exercised usage-reduction or termination rights, multi-year agreements generally permit termination for convenience, and EU cancellation rights further weaken contractual protection. The Salesforce platform wind-down creates a migration deadline. AI-enabled alternatives, custom software and customer consolidation could erode practical switching friction. Sales-representative reductions have already harmed Commercial Solutions demand.

Invalidation: The thesis would fail if customers repeatedly replaced configured Veeva systems with little implementation or validation burden, or if sustained non-renewals and competitive migration losses showed that workflow dependence no longer protected existing demand. Persistent concessions needed to retain deployments would also weaken the economic value of switching friction.
